I’m about four days into my first week here at Well.ca as the new Office Administrator, and already I feel at home.

To be honest, I didn’t expect this, but that’s not because I didn’t have good reason to. In fact, the first thing I said to myself when I got in to my car after my interview was, “I really really reeaaaaally want to work there.” So I shouldn’t be surprised by how happy I already am in my new workplace.

Usually, there is a buffer zone. Usually, when you start a new job, you spend a week or two feeling awkward and out of the loop. Or at least, that’s how my past experiences have gone. This one has been . . . different.

First of all, there was pie on my first day. For no reason. Kiela just made pie, for everyone in the office. Apparently this happens all the time. Baked goods just keep appearing and I’m powerless to resist them. Also (and this should make my love of food apparent), Emily keeps going on chocolate runs during that time around 3:30 pm when the work day should be starting to drag on (even though here, it doesn’t).

There are other things that have added to that homey feeling. A major factor is that every single person in this office is friendly, kind, and easy to talk to. If I did have any questions, I wouldn’t be at all afraid to ask them. But I don’t! Because they have already been answered.

I feel like someone has been reading my mind. A month ago, I was bored because my job wasn’t stimulating, and I didn’t feel like I had any say in what I would do each day. Now, I have everything I wanted in a job. I make my own schedule, and do what needs to be done because I want to do it, not because I have to. If I have problems, they seem to get solved before I even get a chance to ask for help. I feel welcome here. I feel cared about. I feel like I matter.

And it’s funny, because I think that’s pretty much the mission statement of Well.ca. We just want every customer to feel cared about. I think we do a pretty good job.
