Well.ca: Then and Now

Emily HThis summer we had the pleasure of welcoming Emily H back to the team. Emily holds the distinction of being Well.ca’s first ever employee, and things have changed quite a bit since she first worked with Ali three years ago! We’re really sad to see her go but before she left we wanted to know what it’s been like working at Well.ca this summer compared to the very beginning.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am originally from Kingston Ontario, and I came to Guelph to go to school about 8 years ago. After I finished my degree, I started working with Ali’s dad at Norfolk Pharmacy.  One day he mentioned that Ali was thinking of starting his own online health care store, and before I knew it Well.ca had begun!

You were the first employee that our CEO Ali ever hired. What was it like working at Well.ca in the very beginning?

In the very beginning Well.ca was much more basic. I would add products to the website, answer the phones, process the orders, package the orders and finally walk over to Canada Post with big bags full of packages! It was exciting being a part of such a new company and watching it grow.

Well.ca has grown a lot since you first worked here. What has it been like coming back for the summer?

It has been an amazing experience coming back to work at Well.ca. I can’t believe how fast the company has expanded from one or two people, to a staff of more than 20! What amazes me most is that it still feels like a family business.  Everyone genuinely cares about each other, and about what they are doing.

Is there a particular moment that sticks out in your mind?

There have been many wonderful moments that have truly defined the unique culture at Well.ca for me.  I don’t think I could pick just one!  Every day I see the Well.ca team going out of their way to help a person in need, be it a customer or a colleague.  There is a real sense of community here.

Bye Emily, we’re going to miss you! Do you promise to come visit us when you’re back in Guelph?

Absolutely!  It has been fantastic working at Well.ca and I am going to miss every minute!!

Video: Business Attire Day at Well.ca

Being an internet company means that we don’t really need to have a strict dress code here at Well.ca. No dress code means no Casual Fridays, essentially every day is Casual Friday at Well.ca. :)

But our Fun Committee (yes, you read that right, we have a Fun Committee!) thought it would be, well,  fun to have a Business Attire Day so we could all don our finest work-appropriate duds. And thus, Business Attire Day was born! And hey, we even made a video to document the first ever Business Attire Day at Well.ca.

DIY Green Spa

We all need to take time to relax and unwind, why not pamper yourself with an at-home spa treatment using all natural products? Good for you and good for the planet!

  • Is there anything more relaxing than a luxurious soak in the tub? Try experimenting with foaming bubble baths, bath salts, and bath oils in different scents that can range from soothing lavender to invigorating peppermint. Look for sulfate-free products, which are gentler on your skin.
  • Use an exfoliating body scrub to reveal new, glowing skin. For best results apply the body scrub to damp skin and rub vigorously in circular motions before rinsing off. As an added bonus this massaging action can help with circulation and keeping your skin toned.
  • A day at the spa wouldn’t be complete without a facial treatment. Whether your skin is normal, oily, dry, combination, or in need of some firming, there’s a mask that can help treat and maintain your skin.
  • To really set the mood for relaxation, light some scented candles and play your favourite soothing music. Look for candles made out of natural soy wax or bees wax and essential oils.  Try to avoid candles that contain paraffin, which is not a renewable resource.
