Do you get your 8 glasses a day?
With hundreds of different coffees, juices, flavoured waters and energy drinks out there, how often do we drink plain water? Water seems pretty boring when you compare it to the bells and whistles that all the other drinks have to offer.
While it can be easy to understand why it’s important to drink water, it can be hard to figure out how to squeeze that magic number of extra glasses into your day. I did a little digging and added a couple of my own tricks to put together this list of tips on how to drink more water:
- Not everybody needs the same amount of water a day. Try this handy calculator for an estimate.
- Keep a bottle of water with you at your desk, beside your bed and in your bag. If it’s accessible, you’ll drink more.
- Don’t keep pop in the fridge. If I’m craving something sugary, I want it to be cold. By the time what I put in the fridge has cooled down, the craving has passed and I usually end up with a cup of water instead. I always keep my Brita filter filled with water in the fridge.
- Add lemon to make water a little more interesting without adding calories or artificial ingredients
- Make it fun. There is a lot of variety out there so shop for a reusable water bottle with your favourite sports team on it, get one with your school’s logo or maybe a monkey!
How do you drink more water?

When I’m feeling cold in the office and need a hot drink, I often drink plain hot water instead of coffee or hot chocolate. It’s a great way to warm up AND get some of the water that I need during the week. My weekends, however, are another story… I just love Coke too much, especially in the summer!
I am injecting a good practice to my daughter by having a daily water competition. It is just silly. We fill two glasses of water and the game is to find out who drinks first. Invariably, I make my daughter win and she loves it.
I drink when I’m thirsty. I drink mostly water throughout the day, fruit juices with meals, and a cup of tea a day (although I don’t drink tea everyday).
I make sure I drink a cup of water as I get up from bed, and always walk alone with water in my bag, I don’t fall for pop at all, instead I will prefer natural fruit drinks that are instantly made but that’s also once in a while, also you could get more fluid from watermelon by eating it entirely, wash the fruit very very well and keep in the fridge, when you don’t feel like drinking water but you are thirsty, cut a slice and eat it entirely. But the fact remains that nothing quanches thirst most than Mr. WATER… smile.
