Get Back to a School Schedule!
Summer for the average student usually means trying our best to become nocturnal. Sleeping in is one of the greatest luxuries of the summer but it can be hard to flip the switch when classes roll around again. Here are a couple things to try to get back on a regular sleeping schedule:
- Turn off the technology! Being constantly connected through social media and smart phones means that we get a lot less downtime than we did before. Always checking for the latest update or responding to an email means that even the brief time we spend between getting from the grocery store to our car is occupied. Keep phones out of the bedroom to sleep better without distraction.
- Make a gradual transition. Knowing what time classes are in the fall, try to adjust gradually, sleeping earlier by half hour increments.
- Establish a better bedtime routine. Going through the same activities every night will be a cue to the body that it’s time to sleep.
- Make the bedroom sleep friendly. Use some aromatherapy to relax or try lowering the temperatures of bedrooms before going to bed
