Lash Out

703207_83797385

Beauty, like fashion, tends to go in cycles. One season it’s all about glowing, dewy skin; the next season bold lips are the focal point. Right now it’s all about the eyes, and full, lush lashes are the best way to show ‘em off!

Here are 3 tips for achieving covet-worthy lashes:

1. Mascara, mascara, mascara. There’s a lot of choice in the world of mascara , but to really narrow it down it helps to know what look you’re after. If you want thicker looking lashes make sure you get a volumizing mascara to help you pump up the volume. If long, separated lashes are what you’re after try a lengthening mascara to bring your lashes to new heights.

For volume try: CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara or L’Oreal Paris Extra Volume Collagen Mascara

For length try: Maybelline Define-a-Lash Lengthening & Defining Mascara or Maybelline Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara

2. If you can’t make it, fake it! False lashes can give your lashes that extra oomph and are great to use for special occasions, or even every day if you’re daring. Individual lashes give you more control, but may be harder for beginners. You can also try partial lashes just to emphasize the outer corner of your eyes, or for the full shebang try a set of full lashes. Just make sure you use mascara to blend the falsies in with your real lashes for a flawless look.

For individual lashes try: Ardell Dura Lash Individual Lashes
For partial lashes try: Ardell Accent Lashes
For full lashes try: Duo Professional Lashes in Thin & Wispy

3. Make ‘em grow! Growth serums are quite possibly the newest innovation in the world of eyelashes. Now there are serums you can apply to your eyelashes every night that will help your lashes grow longer and fuller in as little as 4 weeks. Try RapidLash Eyelash Renewal Serum to see what all the fuss is about.

Well.ca: Then and Now

Emily HThis summer we had the pleasure of welcoming Emily H back to the team. Emily holds the distinction of being Well.ca’s first ever employee, and things have changed quite a bit since she first worked with Ali three years ago! We’re really sad to see her go but before she left we wanted to know what it’s been like working at Well.ca this summer compared to the very beginning.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am originally from Kingston Ontario, and I came to Guelph to go to school about 8 years ago. After I finished my degree, I started working with Ali’s dad at Norfolk Pharmacy.  One day he mentioned that Ali was thinking of starting his own online health care store, and before I knew it Well.ca had begun!

You were the first employee that our CEO Ali ever hired. What was it like working at Well.ca in the very beginning?

In the very beginning Well.ca was much more basic. I would add products to the website, answer the phones, process the orders, package the orders and finally walk over to Canada Post with big bags full of packages! It was exciting being a part of such a new company and watching it grow.

Well.ca has grown a lot since you first worked here. What has it been like coming back for the summer?

It has been an amazing experience coming back to work at Well.ca. I can’t believe how fast the company has expanded from one or two people, to a staff of more than 20! What amazes me most is that it still feels like a family business.  Everyone genuinely cares about each other, and about what they are doing.

Is there a particular moment that sticks out in your mind?

There have been many wonderful moments that have truly defined the unique culture at Well.ca for me.  I don’t think I could pick just one!  Every day I see the Well.ca team going out of their way to help a person in need, be it a customer or a colleague.  There is a real sense of community here.

Bye Emily, we’re going to miss you! Do you promise to come visit us when you’re back in Guelph?

Absolutely!  It has been fantastic working at Well.ca and I am going to miss every minute!!

Congratulations to our Suddenly Summer Contest winners!

Our Suddenly Summer contest has come to a close, and the results are in!

Congratulations to Joyce from Beausejour, Manitoba; Tamara from Toronto, Ontario; and Kari from Cambridge, Ontario for winning the sun care products of their choice!

Of the 7 sun care products that our contest entrants could choose from, Heiko SPF 40 Sunscreen was the top chosen product.

Video: Business Attire Day at Well.ca

office-threads2

Being an internet company means that we don’t really need to have a strict dress code here at Well.ca. No dress code means no Casual Fridays, essentially every day is Casual Friday at Well.ca. :)

But our Fun Committee (yes, you read that right, we have a Fun Committee!) thought it would be, well,  fun to have a Business Attire Day so we could all don our finest work-appropriate duds. And thus, Business Attire Day was born! And hey, we even made a video to document the first ever Business Attire Day at Well.ca.

DIY Green Spa

CB060685

We all need to take time to relax and unwind, why not pamper yourself with an at-home spa treatment using all natural products? Good for you and good for the planet!

  • Is there anything more relaxing than a luxurious soak in the tub? Try experimenting with foaming bubble baths, bath salts, and bath oils in different scents that can range from soothing lavender to invigorating peppermint. Look for sulfate-free products, which are gentler on your skin.
  • Use an exfoliating body scrub to reveal new, glowing skin. For best results apply the body scrub to damp skin and rub vigorously in circular motions before rinsing off. As an added bonus this massaging action can help with circulation and keeping your skin toned.
  • A day at the spa wouldn’t be complete without a facial treatment. Whether your skin is normal, oily, dry, combination, or in need of some firming, there’s a mask that can help treat and maintain your skin.
  • To really set the mood for relaxation, light some scented candles and play your favourite soothing music. Look for candles made out of natural soy wax or bees wax and essential oils.  Try to avoid candles that contain paraffin, which is not a renewable resource.

Hair Trend: Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo has been around for ages, just ask your grandma – but it’s poised for a comeback. While it’s been used behind the scenes for fashion shows and movies for years (many, many cans of Klorane Dry Shampoo were used to create Kirsten Dunst’s towering updos in Marie Antoinette) it’s finally making its way back to the mainstream as women are discovering the benefits of powdering between lathers. Just in time for the summer heat, which can leave hair feeling, well, a little greasier than usual.

Using a dry shampoo lets you space out your shampoos, which means less time spent styling your hair and less water used when you shower. As an added bonus it gives volume and texture to what would otherwise be greasy, matte hair.

It’s pretty simple to use, just spray or shake the dry shampoo onto the roots of your hair and let it absorb any excess oil for a few minutes. Then brush it out and rub your head with a towel to get any persistent powder out. This part is key, especially if you have darker hair, you don’t want to look like you got in a flour fight before you left your house. Voila, no fuss, no muss, your hair is refreshed! Dry shampoo is great for travel, to freshen up bangs in between washes, or just to amp up your hairstyle before a night on the town.

Are You Beach-Ready?

You’ve been waiting all year for a chance to lie out on your beach towel, but are you ready to don that cute new bikini? Here are our top tips for getting beach-ready!

1.    Wear SPF

You know you should wear SPF all year long, but in the summer it’s especially important to slather on the sunscreen. Try using a moisturizer or foundation with SPF to streamline your morning routine. If you’re spending the day at the beach, don’t forget to reapply frequently!

Products to try: Badger SPF 30 Sunscreen for Face & Body, Ombrelle Sport SPF 15 Spray

2.    Get your glow on

Having a healthy glow is still in style this summer – but please, skip the tanning beds! There are so many options for at home self tanners that will save your skin from sun damage without sacrificing that beautiful bronzed look. You can take your pick from creams, lotions, sprays, and foams. Try a gradual tanner for controllable, buildable results or a tinted bronzer for deeper hues that develop more quickly.

Products to try: Coppertone Moisture Mist Tan Continuous Spray, L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion

3.    Be Firm

It takes a lot of courage to break out the bikini, so every little confidence-booster helps. Thankfully there are many firming creams and patches available to help you feel more comfortable at the beach. Note: anti-cellulite treatments require dedication, be sure to follow directions to a tee for the best results.

Products to try: Nivea Body Good-bye Cellulite Patch, Vaseline Firming & Radiance Age-Defying Lotion

4.    Toe the line

It’s time to get your feet sandal ready. With the new foot files and pedicure kits available it’s easy to give yourself an at-home pedicure that will make your feet look like they came straight from the spa – at a fraction of the cost.

Products to try: Revlon Pedi-Expert Pedicure Kit, Dr. Scholl’s For Her Exfoliating Stone File, Glysomed Foot Balm

5.    Stay hydrated

When the sun’s beating down, it’s especially important to keep yourself hydrated. Nothing can ruin a day at the beach quite like a sun stroke. Stainless steel bottles are considered the safest bottles to use as they are BPA-free and do not leach any chemicals into your water. Water bottle totes are also available to keep your water nice and cool.

Products to try: New Wave Enviro Stainless Steel Water Bottle, ThinkSport Stainless Steel Sports Bottle, New Wave Enviro Insulated 1L Bottle Tote
