The longer days and warmer temperatures of spring could not be a more welcome change but sometimes our skin needs a bit more time than our minds to adjust to the shifting seasons. Winter can take a serious toll on our skin; low moisture levels, icy winds, and heavy foundations leave many of us with dry, flaky and red skin. Luckily, spring is the perfect time to re-evaluate your skin care routine and with just a few simple changes, you’ll have glowing, fresh skin in no time!
Tip #1: Exfoliate – Get rid of that dull, dry layer of skin with a gentle exfoliator. I would recommend steering clear of microbead products in favor of something with natural ingredients and that won’t damage the environment. The Herbivore Botanicals Pink Clay Dry Mask is suitable for all skin types, including those with sensitive skin and is my pick for getting a baby soft complexion. Pink Clay is great for cell renewal, removing impurities, improving elasticity and revealing an overall fresh appearance. Apply as a mask, let dry and remove with a warm muslin cloth.
Tip #2: Switch to a Lighter Moisturizer – Warmer temperatures and increasing humidity means you can swap out heavy creams for a lighter boost of hydration. Oils are a great option, my favourite being the Now Solutions Organic Jojoba Oil. Jojoba oil has both antioxidant and antibacterial properties. It absorbs very quickly due to its similarity with sebum, the oil secreted by the skin’s glands. Use 2-3 drops of this soothing hydrator by patting it gently onto your face.
Tip #3: Add a Brightening Face Serum – Infuse some sunshine into your skin with the Andalou Naturals Brightening Turmeric + C Enlighten Serum. This is great for hyperpigmentation, stimulating collagen and evening out texture for a smoother complexion. Apply in the morning and before your moisturizer for glowing skin all day. Those with very sensitive skin, do a spot test before using, as some may find the formula too potent.
Tip #4: Ditch the Heavy Foundations – Let your skin breathe this Spring with a more lightweight foundation like the Physicians Formula Organic Wear CC Color Correction + Cream. It offers 20 SPF, sheer to medium coverage and great staying power. The formula is hypoallergenic, fragrance, gluten and paraben free.
