Oakmoss is a type of lichen used extensively in perfumery. Its strong moss and underwood scent is used as a bottom note in many perfumes. It can produce woody and damp notes with hints of mushroom, fern and algae. As it is slightly smoky and earthy, oakmoss is used in fern- and spice-based perfumes. It is used as a fixative in both men’s and women’s fragrances.
