Province Apothecary Sweetgrass Braids

Sweetgrass  (Hierchole odarata) is one of the most sacred herbs, sometimes known as ‘holy grass’ or ‘the hair of Mother earth’. Separately each strand is not as strong as the strands are when braided together. It is used to bring positive, healing energy through smudging. Smudging is a ritual to cleanse a place, person or object of negative energy. It involves the burning of special sacred plants and passing an object through the smoke, or fanning smoke around a person or place. The spirit of the plant purifies whatever is being smudged.

To cleanse a room or house of negative energy smudge first with  Sage. Fan the smoke with a feather. Make sure to smudge corners and behind doors. Allow the smoke to settle and move through the area 5-15 minutes. Smudge with Sweetgrass afterwards to bring in positive energies.

Directions: To use, simply light one end of the sweet grass braid. Allow it to burn until it starts smoking then blow out the flame. Smell the sweet aroma and fan the smoke across your body, room or house.

Do not leave lit unattended.
