Our Power, Our Planet.
That’s the theme for Earth Day 2026, and honestly, this one really hit me.
Every year there’s a theme to inspire us on our sustainability journey, but this one feels different. It’s a reminder that the power is actually ours. It’s in our everyday choices, our habits, our homes.
And the best part? It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Because let’s be real, so many people feel like if they can’t do it 100%, it’s not worth doing at all. And that’s just not true.
One of my favourite quotes (that I repeat to myself often) from Anne-Marie Bonneau is:
“We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
So, this Earth Month, let’s lean into the imperfectness of it all, and look at a few simple swaps that help us use our power (without overhauling our entire lives).
Start Where You Are: Cleaning
One of the easiest places to make a difference? Cleaning.
It’s something we’re already doing daily, weekly, monthly, so why not make a small shift there and accidentally reduce waste while we’re at it?
My Go-To: Mint Cleaning
My latest (okay… ongo
ing) obsession is Mint Cleaning. Their natural cleaners are made right here in Canada, they work, and they smell so good.
Fun fact: about 70–80% of us choose cleaning products based on scent, we associate that fresh smell with “clean.” So, if you’re someone who loves that sensory moment (hi, same), you are going to LOVE their lemon + mint cleaning scrub.
It’s tough on grime, but smells like a spa, not a science lab. Win-win.
The Swap That Fully Stuck: Swedish Sponge Cloths
Okay, this is one I was very early on.
I use Swedish sponge cloths every single day, and they have completely replaced paper towels in my house. Fully replaced. (Unless my husband sneaks a roll in, but that’s a different story.)
If you’ve ever had me over, there’s a very good chance I’ve brought you one, usually wrapped around a bottle of wine (my signature hostess gift!)
I love these from Danica Swedish Sponge Cloth with cherries (honestly, all the designs are cute).
They’re reusable, washable, and compostable, yes, you can pop them right into your green bin when you’re done. They can last up to 12 months, and one cloth can replace up to 15–17 rolls of paper towel.
It’s one of those swaps that feels small, but actually makes a big difference without you even thinking about it.
Let’s Talk Laundry (and Over-Washing)
We all know the fashion industry isn’t exactly gentle on the planet (hello, fast fashion). But what people don’t always realize is that how we care for our clothes at home is part of that impact too.
Over-washing is a big one.
In fact, 71% of adults admit to washing clothes that aren’t actually dirty. And all that extra washing:
So, here’s a simple swap I’ve been loving… I recently started using Safely fabric refresher, and I’m hooked.
It’s plant-based, super easy to use, and designed to:
Basically, it gives your clothes a second life before they hit the laundry basket.
And yes… it smells amazing (clearly a theme for me).
One Swap I Didn’t See Coming: Shampoo Bars
This one surprised me. I was very loyal to my bottled shampoo… until I tried a bar. And now? I don’t think I’m going back.
I’ve been using NOTICE Hair Co. The Stimulator Shampoo Bar and I get the hype.
It lathers, it cleans, and my hair feels just as good (if not better) than with bottled shampoo. But here’s the part I love, one bar can last 50 to 75 washes, replacing the equivalent of 2–3 plastic bottles.
It’s plastic-free, travel-friendly, and just… easy. And once you get used to it, it becomes part of your routine without even thinking about it.
For the Tough Cleaning Jobs (Yes, Natural Can Handle It)
I think one of the biggest myths out there is that natural cleaners can’t handle the really toughstuff.
You know:
But let me introduce you to a bit of a powerhouse…
The Universal Stone is one of those products that makes you go… wait, how is this working so well?
It’s made in Canada, made with just a handful of ingredients, and somehow cleans everything.
It’s one of those products you keep reaching for because it just… works.
So where do we go from here? Here’s the good news, you don’t need to flip your entire life upside down to make a difference. This isn’t about getting it perfect. It’s about those small, everyday choices that quietly add up.
A better cleaner here.
Skipping a load of laundry there.
Reaching for something reusable instead of single use.
That’s it. That’s the shift.
Because the power isn’t in doing everything, it’s in doing something… and then doing it again tomorrow. That’s how it builds. That’s how it sticks.
Our power. Our planet.
And if we can make a few of these swaps without overthinking it, just naturally, almost accidentally, we’re already doing more than we think.
Happy Earth Month my friends
Jules
