Maybelline began in 1915 as a family-owned business. The founder named the company after his sister Maybel, from whom he originally received the idea of producing and selling an easy-to-use product to darken eyelashes. The first product, Maybelline Cake Mascara, was only offered through the mail, but quickly became so popular that women began asking for it in drugstores. Today Maybelline is a global leading cosmetic brand and is currently available in over 90 countries worldwide.
