Chaste berry has been used for centuries to treat numerous gynecologic conditions. There is clinical evidence that chaste berry is effective at reducing many symptoms of PMS, such as irritability, mood alteration, anger, headaches, bloating/water retention and breast fullness. While the duration of PMS remains unchanged, it has been shown in multiple clinical trials that chaste berry significantly reduces the symptoms of PMS. The symptomatic relief of PMS provided by chaste berry is thought to be caused by its anti-inflammatory and weak analgesic effects. It has been reported that there is no change in the efficacy of chaste berry in individuals using oral contraceptives.
