Washing Soda (sodium carbonate) is related to baking soda. It cuts through grease, softens water and disinfects. It can also be used in swimming pools to increase the pH level.
Before commercial cleaners and synthetic, chemical surfactants were introduced in the 1940s, the majority of household cleaning was performed by combining basic, natural ingredients, such as soap flakes, borax, washing soda and baking soda. These products may have required some additional "elbow grease", but they cleaned effectively and most importantly had little impact on the health of the user or the environment.
Eco-Pioneer Pure Washing Soda is 100% pure, with natural ingredients from local suppliers. Their boxes are made with 100% recycled paper fibres and use non-toxic, vegetable inks.
Basic Automatic Laundry Soap Recipe:
Presoak heavily soiled items in water water with 1/2 cup Eco-Pioneer Pure Washing Soda for 30 minutes. Rub soiled areas with moistened soap flakes.
Caution: MAY IRRITATE EYES. Do not get in eyes. Keep out of reach of children. First Aid Treatment: If in eyes, rinse with water for 15 minutes. If swallowed, drink a full glass of water or milk. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician.

Better zero plastic option than laundry strips
An effective zero plastic laundry detergent (when combined with soap flakes and borax, as per instructions) it works better than the laundry strips I was using (which actually contain plastics!) so I’m switching to this now.

Good
I use this product to make my own laundry soap and to 'super charge' regular detergent. I find it dissolves okay in cold water, but absolutely fine in warm. I found the powder arrived a bit clumpy in the box--and the clumps have to be broken up prior to using or else they do not dissolve. I appreciate that this soda is unscented. (I have recently found that washing soda can smell very unpleasant if you choose the wrong brand).

I feel good using this product from an environmental aspect and it does an excellent job of cleaning.
