All the features I didn't know I needed
I got picky about water bottles after picking up indoor rock climbing as a new activity. Three critical features I wanted in a water bottle were
1. Insulated to keep water cold AND to keep condensation off the exterior of the bottle
2. A lid to cover the drinking spout -- with indoor rock climbing, you tend to chuck your bottle on the padded ground, and I didn't love the idea of a mouthpiece touching the floor of a gym and
3. One-handed operation. Your hands get sore, filthy, and tired from climbing and belaying.
It was surprisingly difficult to find a product that met these criteria AND that weren't child-sized. This Owala FreeSip bottle checked every box, plus has a little handle, which doubles as a lock to prevent accidentally popping the lid open. Its top is wide enough to toss ice cubes in, and makes cleaning easier.
It's larger than something like a a Swell bottle, since it holds more water, but the body of the Owala is contoured subtly, so that it is narrow enough to hold in one hand without feeling unwieldy.
I haven't tried the straw because I didn't need it.
If I wanted one tiny feature -- a non-slip base would be cool.
