Description
Alaffia
market baskets are used traditionally in Togo, West Africa to carry
produce to and from markets or farms. Members of Alaffia basket
cooperatives receive fair wages and health care for their families in
return for indigenous skills and knowledge. This exchange empowers West
African communities and preserves cultural heritage.

Beautiful and durable basket
Even though we cannot chose the color of the basket, wich is always the case with these baskets as each is unique, I took a chance and was not disappointed. The basket is beautiful, very sturdy and in excellent condition. On top of that, it is a fair trade product.

Replaced my treasured basket
I bought a basket originally in Benin 25 years ago, and it was time to replace it. I was thrilled to have found it here at such a great price. I love that the weaver signed her handcrafted basket. Each basket are created uniquely and with care. Highly recommend it. Also the basket is very useful and practical from carrying your groceries to a picnic. I'm considering buying another one. The size is perfect!

Beautiful basket high quality!
It was folded into itself for shipping and required some manipulation and I sprayed it with water to reshape it to its original shape when it arrived. It smelled so good....the natural smells of the grass or straw from which it was made. Well made. Quality strong handle. It will last for years I'm sure.

Love this basket!!
Solid African quality made basket. I use it every day to carry items including my lunch to work. I will definitely purchase another that I can use for my shopping. I also love the connection it gives me to my African heritage each time I use it. Great purchase.
