Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing Reformulation I've been using this Giovanni hydrating hair mask for maybe about 15 months, but I didn't realize when I stocked up a couple months ago that the conditioner had been reformulated. There was no indication on the site; the ingredient list had not been updated. Suffice it to say, this mask went from being ultra hydrating to drying out my hair and making it feel like straw. I'm so disappointed. I would NOT have stocked up knowing the product had been reformulated. Honestly? I want a refund. What a waste of money. A previously wonderfully hydrating conditioner, now drying out my hair.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very light & pleasant on scalp, but leaves hair limp & dull. I have fine 1c hair- and a lot of it! My hair is prone to breakage and I swim so using a hair mask in place of conditioner is a must. I was very lucky when a friend gifted me the strengthening duo by JVN Hair last year, which my hair LOVED more than any product I've ever tried (bouncy hair, dead ends were completely revived, shine galore- looked styled without styling), though my scalp wasn't as thrilled (some flaking and roots became greasy after only a day). I bring this up because I bought the Giovanni strengthening shampoo and mask in hopes of having a lower cost, but still effective alternative and my hair has had the opposite reaction to JVN. After using for two weeks, my hair is lacking shine and is very limp- all the bounce is gone, and my ends look as dead as ever. On the other hand, i apply the mask from roots to ends, according to the instructions, and my roots have volume, stay grease-free for two days, and there is no flaking. This mask did deliver on another promise- while JVN hair also did this, these products make my hair feel soft and the frizz is greatly reduced...though instead of shine, my hair kind of has that fluffy, limp, dull look. It could be that JVN hair really spoiled me, but the difference in hair appearance is quite noticeable. I do love how my scalp feels, and I don't miss how JVN made my scalp feel, so I'm conflicted! I think I have to keep searching for the diamond in the rough product that will give me the best of both words with ingredients I like, because I don't want to live with limp, dull hair OR perpetually greasy roots. I also want to make note of the scent, for those who are scent-sensitive (myself included). I used just the mask with a different shampoo for the first week, and the scent was present, but subtle. Now, using, both the Giovanni strengthening shampoo plus this mask, the combined scent is very strong and clings to the hair. In the shower it isn't so bad, but I feel it gets stronger after my hair dries and smells kind of "powdery" in a way I find to be unpleasant. I'm curious to see if these products actually do strengthen my hair- only time will tell, and I may update at a later point!
