Step 3: Find a good spot for your block to live. An ideal spot would be on a counter top out of direct sunlight and away from drafts or heaters. Included in this kit is a humidity tent. Roll the opening of bag up and stand it loosely over your block. Mist the block and the inside of the humidity tent at least daily with a spray bottle.
Step 4: After a few days you should see mushrooms starting to grow all over the block. Pick when the caps start to open up and the gills on the underside of the cap are visible. It is best not to let the caps get completely flat.
Step 5: Remove the humidity tent and stop misting the block. Let it rest and dry out for 2 weeks.
Step 6: Dunk the block in a pot of cold tap water for a few hours or overnight. Set something heavy like a plate on the block to hold it under water. Follow steps 3 through 6 to keep growing. This block should give 2 - 4 harvests of mushrooms. Throw the block in the compost when it starts to fall apart or mold severely.
Step 1: Put your new mushroom block in the fridge for at least 24-hours.
Step 2: Take your block out of the fridge and give it a gentle hit on a hard surface to send a little shock through it. Take the block completely out of both bags and set it on a plate.

Very disappointing
Bought this as a birthday gift for my foodie Sister and it was memorable to be sure, but not in a good way. Perhaps it was the storage on your end, or the way it got delivered, but the mushrooms had already begun to grow in the box. When we opened it we were a bit grossed out because it looked like they had been trying to grow for quite a while and there were shrooms and whit fungus all over. Tried to salvage but after she tasted one of the shrooms she apologized and asked if I would mind if she just threw it out into the garden. No worries, waste of my hard earned money.

Bought two boxes and it's been a great expierence
Purchased 2 kits, 1 Shiitake and 1 Oyster, and they have been both a lot of fun to grow. It took about 10-12 days of misting daily to see the first mushrooms pop out, but once they did, they came flying in.

Not ordering again
The log came dark and covered with half dead mushrooms. After a week following instructions there were no signs of life. I have tried to salvage it, soak it overnight and got one big mushroom at the end.
