Description
Kurundu nutmeg powder is Fair Trade, certified organic and grown in Sri Lanka. As a legacy of colonization, spice growers are still
poorly
paid. By
supporting Fair Trade, you make the world a fairer place by helping to
provide adequate housing, medical assistance, and education funds for
spice growers and their families.

The nutmeg tree is any of several species of trees in the genus Myristica. The nutmeg tree is important for two spices derived from its fruit: nutmeg and mace. Mace is the dried "lacy" reddish covering or aril of the seed, while nutmeg is the acual seed. Nutmeg seeds are egg-shaped, about 20-30 mm long and 15-18 mm wide, and weigh between 5-10 g when dried. This is the only tropical fruit that is the source of two different spices!
