Deep clean your pores to treat current and future breakouts with NEUTROGENA Oil-Free Acne Wash. Designed for acne-prone skin, this effective yet gentle acne cleanser provides deep cleaning without over-drying your skin. Directions: New Users: Apply to small area once daily for 3 days to test for sensitivity. If no discomfort occurs, apply to entire affected area and rinse off. Start with 1 application, gradually increasing to 2-3 times daily, if needed. If dryness/peeling occurs, reduce to once a day or every other day.

If irritation occurs, use only one product. Stop use and see doctor if: you develop severe irritation/burning/itching; your case is severe and/or if no improvement within 6-8 weeks. If you develop hives, swelling of eyes and mouth, blistering or difficulty breathing, get medical help right away. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, call a Poison Control Center or get medical help right away. Ask doctor before use if pregnant/breastfeeding. Store at 15-30°C.

Terrible
Bought this 3 days ago and woke up 2 days later with looks like a burn on one side of my face. It’s swollen, red, irritable.
This isn’t the first time a product from neutrogena has done this to my skin.

I have a very sensitive skin Im having hard time to find a safe and inexpensive beauty products! I tried this one and im using it almost one month now I can say this is really effective for me. i like this product 100% and affordable! It helps to treat my pimples.This is safe for those who have sensitive skin like me.

Worst product
I was amazed by this brand before but when I use this certain product, it made me dissapointed. Made my face swollen, itchy, red. My eyes were super swollen. We must ask for a refund for this. What a waste of money!!!!

Cost-Effective Solution
I used to purchase Proactive, which is quite expensive. I had tried switching over to other brands, but always found myself going back to the costly Proactive because nothing else seemed to work. Tried this, and finally was able to say goodbye to that other brand for good. This product (I prefer Neutrogena's Oil-Removing Foaming Cleanser, but this is a close second) controls break outs and doesn't over dry. I also find it doesn't create a strong sensitivity to the sun/UV rays like other products I've tried. And of course, the price point is a huge selling feature. Overall, highly recommended.

Very irritating
I bought this product to try it for the first time. After 2 days of use it gave my face a rash like a chemical burn. It was dry and flaky and burned to the touch. Was very disappointed:(

Burned and Dry Face!
By Day 2 of using this product, my face turned red, felt burned, and became extremely dry. It hurts so much that I can’t apply anything else to it. I’m shocked to see reviews from years ago reporting the exact same issues and skin reactions. Yet, in 2025, no improvements have been made, and you’re still selling the same product. Extremely disappointed.

I am so mad about this wash.
I have tried this wash in the past and loved it. So I bought some more and began to fall back in love. Until it dried out my cheeks and nose so bad that it burned to smile or apply a soothing cream to it. My cheeks are all full of blotches and the ache on my forehead has gotten worse. I used the product on a small part of my face to check for irritations like the product said and nothing hurt so I used the product for another few weeks and then this happened. I am so annoyed that this happened a week before family photos. I have decided to never use these products again.

Good For Acne Prone Skin
I use to have very oily and acne skin. I found this wash did help reduce the oily patches on my skin. But after a while it really dried out my skin and it continued to dry out my skin even after I applied moisturizer. Over the years, I changed moisturizer a few times and still my skin was extremely dry. Finally I switched over to the Deep Clean wash and my skin stopped drying up as much.
This product definitely worked on my oily face and is still my go to cleanser to help with my acne. However, you should make sure you moisturize your skin to prevent it from drying out.

Burned my skin
I was having bad acne from wearing face masks all day at work. My face was oily, which never happened in the past. I purchased this face wash hoping it would help, instead it made it worse. After 3 days my face hurts, is red and flaking, even my eye lids. Please stay away from this face wash if you have sensitive skin. What a waste of money. Wish I purchased something else instead. I'm hoping it gets better because I have a very important event to go to in two days.

Awesome product!
I bought this product many times as I was facing acne issues. I used many other products available in the market to get rid of acne but all of them failed to give the desired result. Then my dermatologist recommend me to try Neutrogena oil free acne face wash. When I started using this product I got instant result and within a month. Would highly recommend this product to those who are facing acne problems and those who have oily skin.

Irritated face after 2nd use
Bought this product and the first use was okay, but by the second use my skin feels like sandpaper, it's burning and flaky. It's been 3 days since I used it and my face isn't getting any better. It's like it wants to act sort of like an allergic reaction and feel swollen, irritated and itchy, except antihistamines do nothing to help it! Waste of money and now I'm afraid to try face wash for my acne again.

Very disappointed!
Purchased based on a few magazine recommendations. Was really looking forward to using it as I have oily skin that causes a breakouts somewhat often. After using it once a day for about 3 days, and not changing anything else in my routine, I noticed my skin itched like crazy and developed small bumps, almost like hives. Also noticed that the skin on my cheeks suddenly developed dry patches, which I have never had before on account of my oily skin. Overall I do not recommend! My face should not hurt after using a cleansing product!

Absolutely terrible.
I wish I had read these reviews sooner.. I bought the whole line of "oil free acne wash" a total of 5 scrubs, cleansers and so on. After two days of using the face wash, I woke up to my face burning, like a sunburnt type of burn. I looked in the mirror and was shocked to see my cheeks were a bright red, I felt my face & it was so unbelievably dry. My hubby and I came to the conclusion it had taken out all my natural face oils and had completely dried my skin out. So painful, I would not recommend, especially if you have dry skin!

Horrible
This product is too strong for sensitive skin, it's 2% SA which is a high percentage for an active acid like SA. It pretty much burned my skin and gave me a bad itchy rash on both my cheeks. I also have sensitive but acne prone skin so I decided to try this cleanser. Will be switching to a different cleanser for sure.

Adverse effects
I bought this face wash a few days ago, and after using it twice, my skin became dry and red, and it was as if my skin was burned, although it says on the product that it does not dry the skin and regulates the oiliness,but this product makes my skin very Dried. I will never recommend this product to anyone.

My face is SO DRY
I bought this product a few weeks ago, and since I know salicylic acid can be drying - decided to only use it twice a week. It made my face drier than it’s ever been in my life. The second time using it my face started peeling, and the skin under my eyes was burning and red - which sucks because I need to go get my license photo taken today. It hurts - like a chemical burn. I covered my face in hyluronic acid followed by first aid beauty’s ultra repair cream which helped a bit - but ow! Never buying again.

Allergic reaction
This product has caused me some serious allergic reaction 2 days post using this face wash. It is extremely stripping! Woke up with beehive reaction! My face has swollen badly and severe redness and puffing has occurred.

Did not agree with me.
I am 43 and suffer from acne breakouts around my chin and nose area. I tried using the Neutrogena oil-free acne wash. Apparently I am allergic to something in the wash as my eyes swelled almost shut and I developed a rash around my neck and chin, with little bumps. I look like a wrinkle dog right now. I have used other Neutrogena products and have had no adverse effects with them, however there must be something in this that doesn't agree with me. So check the ingredient list.

Worst Product Ever.
This product was recommended to me from my Doctor who had nothing but good things to say about the product, but all this product has done is destroy my skin. I have a severe chemical burn all over my face, swelling and tenderness. I have tried different products, icing my face to help with the pain and nothing is working because of how damaged my skin currently is. I would never recommend this product to anyone and I will never purchase from this company again.

Overdrying!
Got this last week and while it leaves my skin feeling clean, it does it to the point of being literally squeaky clean. My face gets absolutely dry and tight a few minutes after washing. I’m going to try and use less of the wash and see if that helps (although I’m using just one pump currently) but so far I’m not happy. It would be nice if neutrogena could reply with a comment about what would be a good way to fix this issue.

I am 30 years old and I really appreciate you,i have acne on my face,your face wash is great.I have used your oil free moisturizer after that,and also i used your rapid clear acne cream for 2 month.it was a great combination.your face wash doesnt dry my skin,I used a different face wash and my experience shows your product is best and I am wondering about your sun screen,which one is oil free and have a high protection?

Burned my skin
I was really looking forward to using this on my skin after reading the reviews but it ruined all the skin around my mouth. I had to use severe moisturizers in order to repair the flaky skin that had developed. If you have combination skin, I strongly would not recommend this product. I stopped using it right away and my skin feels much better now. It dries out your face to fight acne, but it's not worth the pain.

It's average
This is the kind of product that people with good skin genes use. If you have breakouts, and are acne-prone, then this will mostly likely do nothing. It doesn't do anything for my skin. It makes it more bright but that's around it. It's overall a mediocre product. If you don't have many skin issues then I'd recommend it. If you do, then this isn't the product that clears blemishes or controls acne.

This product is horrible my skin has never been soo dry and flakey I have combination skin and I used this every day and it got worse and worse I’ve tried to even use neutrogena grape fruit moisturizer to help with the dryness and it burns Soo badly where it’s at the point where I can’t put any products not even makeup on my face after this experience Im not sure I want to use this product again.

Very bad product
I bought this product a week ago to try it for the first time, the result was terrible, it literally burned my face. I’m unable to touch my skin or even wash it, I can’t go out at all until my skin healed. I only used it for 3 days, I can’t believe this is a Neutrogena product!! Please review its ingredients, there must be a mistake. I’m very disappointed, I don’t trust you anymore!

This product is okay, it did not cause me to break out or anything. It does dry out the face after continuously using it, but some moisturizer will help. I only use it on my back because I don't like using moisturizers on my face. It doesn't cause my back to break out more than it already does (I have pretty severe back acne.) But it doesn't decrease the amount I have either.
