It's a beautiful object with a clever mechanism, and it blends in with the tub beautifully, but it fails important functional criteria: 1 - The top portion is bowl shaped (when open), so it retains a spoonful of water after use. 2 - The bottom portion is a raised dome shape, so water below the top of the dome does not drain, leaving a puddle in the tub after use. 3 - Hair not only gets wrapped around the centre, but actually gets tightly wedged and tangled in the seam between the top and bottom. It's like untangling hair from the wheel of a toy car or from the agitator of a vacuum cleaner. Good grief. This one is automatic landfill for me unfortunately. Didn't make it past one shower. I put my old strainer back in. This should not have passed use-cycle testing.

Plugs the bath drain properly
I had issues with the standard metal (pull up push down) bath plug, so I pulled it out. This is a long hair household, so the drain gets plugged frequently, and it was hard to fish it out around the old plug. The cylinder on the bottom of this flex plug is smaller than the drain itself, but the wide flap generously covers the area around the drain, so it completely plugs the water during baths. This also makes it easy to pull out & remove hair. I don’t have a problem with “how difficult it is to remove the hair”. Just take some scissors, remove the hair, clean the plug, and put it back. It’s easy. You push down and pull up the flap in the centre to drain water. I haven’t had a problem with how quickly the water drains during showers or baths...just clean the hair at the rate you should, and would have to with any other drain plug. It’s been a month, and I haven’t noticed any smells...but I will be curious about how this holds up in a year. I do mustard baths, bath bombs, salts, coffee, etc...no issues with draining or staining.

Practical, Effective and Cost efficient
I tested out this product for the past week and am happy I got it. I was tired of my shower drain clogging every couple of months due to my long hair. This plug has prevented my hair from clogging my drain. I have no issues with removing the hair from the plug - use scissors if it’s knotted up. I would much rather deal with this than getting my janky wire hanger to unclog the drain!

So effective!
I have really thick hair that sheds like crazy! My bathroom sink is constantly getting clogged and I recently had to get it snaked. This new plug has been so effective for catching my hair yet still letting the water flow. My drain hasn’t clogged since and the price is right!

Hair gets stuck
Works well but impossible to clean.
The hair get stuck around the smallest area (bottle neck) and once it’s stuck around, even the smallest pair of cissors won’t be able to reach it.

Good In Theory
I LOVE umbra products and the plus is aesthetically pleasing however, the water doesn’t completely drain and the hairs don’t always get caught in the filter (so they’ll just stay around the plug). The hairs are also hard to remove from the filter (I have to wear gloves to pull them out)

Clogs drain easily
Unfortunately the hair gets tangled in this product and is very hard to remove. I’ve purchased the starfish style before which works a lot better. This product becomes very clogged easily and the tub fills up with water when it should drain. I would not purchase this again.

Love this drain catcher. It works great and helps as i am losing hair and i don't have to clean drains for hair as the catcher , catches all my hair from going down drain.
