It is leak proof on the INSIDE only. the leak will not go into other compartments, yogurt & apple sauce WILL leak around the sides & out of the yumbox. I put the box on it's side inside a lunch bag, as it will never be sitting flat in my childs school bag.
The apple sauce watery part leaked a bit around the outside edge of the box - but not to other food IN the box & the yogurt did the same thing.
If this was flat all the time it would not leak. I do like this lunch box a lot but i wish it was COMPLETELY leak proof. 4yr old can open it easily. I plan on putting this in a lunch bag to avoid leaks in back pack. Tapas vs panino due to the size, the panino is fine for kindergarten but if this box lasts for yrs my son will need a bigger one so I went with the tapas. It is a bit tricky to find a lunch bag that fits the tapas - some cute kid lunch bags are too small ideal size would be 10x8inch.

I absolutely love the yumbox. My son uses the daily for his lunch at school, and has for 3 years now. The Tapas is the 4th one we have purchased, for My husband's lunch. I always have and always will recommend any yumbox to anyone searching for the perfect lunch box.
