Maybe not the best for a 3-year old
This toy is well built and detailed, but probably too delicate for a rough toddler. If your child is gentle with their toys or might see this as special and take care of it, then it would be great. But if, like mine, she wants to take everything loose off, force things and generally play roughly with everything, then this toy will get beat up pretty fast.
