Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too many flaws I’m posting this review here because clek refuses to publish my review on their official website due to dishonest business practices. Clek seems to be one of the most highly respected car seats in terms of aesthetic and safety. And we love that is a local company! So of course I went ahead and purchased a liing as well as a foonf for down the road. We have been using the liing for around 5 months now and here are my thoughts. For a $700 car seat, I would expect everything on it to be perfected. There are a few ‘flaws’ unfortunately. Major things: -The button to loosen the straps is hidden. It’s a small hole where you have to awkwardly insert and hook your finger in order to access it. Then, manually loosening the strap is nearly impossible due to how high up it is under the seat. 95% of the time, I end up taking the seat off the base to loosen the straps which is extremely inconvenient. -The extendable sun shade does not stay taut. It ‘clicks’ into the extended position, but then slowly retracts which defeats the entire purpose. -Placing the seat into the base is rough. Despite always having it in one recline position, I struggle a lot with getting it to click into position. It’s not a smooth and swift process and LO always ends up getting jerked around before it clicks into place. -The seat got stuck in the base recently. This is a common enough occurrence with the liing that they even have a video on their website on how to manually remove it if it gets stuck, which involves ramming a screwdriver into one of the levers rendering the base broken and unusable. I contacted clek support regarding this and will be getting a new base. They claim that seats manufactured before 2019 have this issue, however my seat was manufactured in 2022 which means this is an issue that they still have not fixed. Minor things: -A loud clicking sound is made when you adjust the car seat handle into any set position. I figured out that this can be avoided by keeping both buttons held down until the handlebar is in position. Sometimes, I’m in a rush or I forget to and I always end up hearing that huge crank/click. It doesn’t seem second nature to me to keep both buttons held down until after the handle bar goes into place. Maybe I’m just used to the previous bucket seat I was using which didn’t have this issue. -The wool + tencel blend on the mammoth models are actually not very soft. It feels almost like nylon. Aside from the fabric, the seat itself isn’t as plush. Same goes for the foonf, the actual seat feels as hard as a rock. I’ve compared it to other convertibles which feel more plush and comfortable. -The straps rest on top of the thighs rather than the hips (the straps rested on the hips on our previous bucket seat). I attribute this as part of the reasons why my baby dislikes being in this car seat as I can’t imagine it being comfortable. It leaves red marks on her thighs. I contacted clek support regarding this and was never given a straight forward response. -For a $700 car seat, I’d at least expect a little rubber piece on the handle bar. Just for comfort and ease when carrying the car seat. All in all, I am super disappointed. At the end of the day, safety is the #1 priority but all of these little flaws make me want to rip my hair out sometimes.
