This is Niacin in the form of Nicotinic Acid. If you haven't taken it before start with a quarter tablet then work your way up to a full tablet. Many people who start this stuff up too fast may very well end up experiencing a somewhat unpleasant "Niacin flush". However, if a nice full detoxifying flush is what you're looking for then this stuff is great.

I take 2000 mg per day on my physician's advise to control cholesterol. Only the version that makes you flush works for this purpose. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find the "flush" version in drug or grocery stores. I was very happy to discover well.ca carries the Jamieson brand and ships quickly. You have a new customer. For those of you having trouble with the flushing that comes with the product, your body builds a resistance to it if you increase the dosage slowly - over a few weeks. I also take it just before bed, I am usually asleep before the "flush" kicks in and it doesn't wake me.

I agree with other people commenting. I am 6'2" and weigh 180 lbs and 500mg is far too much for me - I thought I was dying - until a Google search told me the reaction was "normal". Regardless, I now take 1/2 pill immediately after a bowl of oatmeal and the flushing is manageable. But I think there needs to be a BIG LABEL letting people know what to expect.

500 mg of Niacin is a therapeutic dose. The niacin flush is not an allergic reaction but a normal result of high doses and is harmless. No one has ever been hospitalized as a result of taking high doses of niacin because it is non-toxic. To reduce the flush effect take it with a B-complex vitamin and food. You'll still get the flush, but not as strongly.
