Description
This Penny Lane Organics Shea Butter is pure, natural, raw, traditional & hand-made!
Shea butter is a natural slightly yellowish or ivory colored and nutty, smoky scented natural fat extracted from the seed of the African shea tree. It is often referred to by its French name as karite tree, which originally (ghariti) means the tree of life. The tree got this name due to its exceptional healing properties. This raw shea butter is made in a traditional way by Wali women and children from northern Ghana. Shea nuts are collected, cleaned, washed and cracked by hand before being ground to make butter.
Pure raw shea butter is also edible and has been used for centuries in Africa as cooking oil, as a waterproofing wax, for hairdressing, for candle-making, as an anti-inflammatory for sprains and arthritis and to sooth dry and cracked skin.
Shea butter has superior moisturizing properties and is often used to by those that suffer from:
Directions: Use shea butter as a massage oil, as a moisturizer after the shower or instead of a shaving cream. Simply take a small piece of butter and let it melt between the palms of your hands and then spread over the skin or hair roots. Safe to use on children and pets too.
If using Mango butter to make cosmetics - when adding butters to creams and lotions, it might be necessary to gently warm them until the texture can be incorporated into the final product. Using a hand blender, create a vortex with your cream or lotion and drizzle your melted butter to fully incorporate. For addition in soaps, the general rule of thumb is 1 tablespoon per pound. As with most raw materials, results may vary, so we strongly recommend small, lab scale batches prior to any commercial manufacturing.

I've been using this for a couple weeks now and I absolutely love it! There is just some work as you have to melt the product in your hand by rubbing your hands together to be able to apply to your skin. Some people may not like the smell, but I don't mind it at all. It just smells raw and natural. My skin has never been so smooth! Also, my heels were getting pretty bad, since I can't get a pedicure but now the cracks are gone ever since I have been applying this. Will definitely buying again.

Can I Give 6 Stars?
Pure, unrefined deliciously moisturising, odourless butter from a divine dimension, all in the least expensive big jar ever. There is nothing that soothes my extremely dry lips like this, and it's perfect for cracked hands and feet too. You do need to mix it in the jar a little if you want it to be smooth, but I like that it comes in chunks; it's like it came right out of the shea nut for me. Love!

Looks strange, feels nice
The texture was a bit different than I expected. I am not sure if was just the product I received or if this is a consistent issue, but it is grainy and white in colour instead of the smooth, yellow shea butter pictures I have seen online. Nonetheless, it still works well and smells great. But, application is a bit hard because of this texture issue.

I LOVE this Shea Butter! Will be repurchasing!
I bought this Shea Butter recently during a 20% OFF sale a couple weeks ago, but previously bought it years ago. I decided to come back to get it, because I remember it being so good. The first time I used it, I blended it with olive oil and used it for my hair primarily. Then I started using it on my skin recently and noticed how much more smooth it was. I had an eczema flare up and this helped clear it. Now, I’ve made a new mixture with jojoba oil, coconut oil, olive oil, vitamin e oil and lemongrass essential oil for fragrance. I also added a cocoa butter mix my sister gave to me to thicken the butter. It smells so good and is VERY moisturizing! When you first put it on, it’s a little greasy but when it dries down, it gives you a radiant glow. Also, long term use of Shea butter can help eliminate stretch marks! So think about that...You get glowy, sun-kissed skin AND skincare benefits? I mean, I think that’s a pretty darn good deal! I honestly love this brand because it’s affordable and you get a good amount. I will be purchasing again! And I think you should too.

Very grainy
I am a huge fan of using pure Shea butter as lotion and have been doing so religiously since my pregnancy a few years ago. I bought this product twice from well.ca and will never purchase again. The first time the Shea butter was typical and creamy but the second time was so grainy that I had to wash it off. I know shea butter can sometimes be grainy but it usually melts and can be rub in. This felt like I had sand or salt grains on me that just sat on my skin. Terrible quality control.

Terrible texture
I don’t mind the smell and it is very moisturizing however it is very chunky and gritty in texture. I don’t mind melting the Shae butter in my hands before rubbing it in but have found this particular product difficult to use and not as smooth as other options.

Absolutely the best
Absolutely the best! This was my first time purchasing raw shea butter and it's so versatile, I use it in making natural products, as face moisturizer, and is the only product I can use without getting an allergy flare-up. I've even used this to treat eczema around my eye area, so it's awesome for people with sensitive skin!

Product Changed
I have been using PL's Shea Butter for a few years now and recently, I found the product has changed. It smells different (it now smells like it has a fragrance oil added) and it's more gritty (it used to be so smooth). Please bring back the old version.
