Douglas Laboratories Ocu-Omega™ is a Caplique® containing a novel combination of lutein, zeaxanthin and omega-3 fatty acids from ultra-pure, molecularly distilled fish oil. This formula combines ingredients well regarded for ocular health in a fish (not bovine or porcine) gelatin capsule.

Omega-3 fatty acids play an important role in the maintenance of overall health. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) forms a structural component of the retina, the part of the eye responsible for receiving light that the lens has focused to ultimately send neuronal signals to the brain for visual recognition.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are nutritionally important carotenoids. Like many other carotenoids, lutein is an important antioxidant nutrient that protects healthy cells from oxidative and free radical damage.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are efficient quenchers of free radicals in the body, and research has shown that these important carotenoids are the predominant pigments found in the macula. Additionally, lutein is especially concentrated in the rods, where there are the visual cells of the retina that are responsible for black and white vision in the dark. Together, lutein and zeaxanthin help maintain eyesight in conditions such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Futhermore, these unique carotenoids can help improve macular pigment optical density.
