Himalayan Soapnuts™ are the fruit of the Ritha tree, also known as the Soapnut tree, or Soapberry tree. Soapnuts get their name due to their ability to produce rich, cleansing suds. The hard, stone-like pit of the fruit is removed, and the fleshy part is dried in the sun.
For centuries, soapnuts have been used by people around the world to wash laundry and the finest textiles (wool, silk, cashmere…). Soapnuts can also be used to make cleaning solutions for washing dishes, floors, and hair!
Features:
Laundry: Place 6-8 soapnut-halves in the small cotton pouch included in the package of Himalayan Soapnuts™. Make sure to tie the drawstrings shut. Place the pouch of soapnuts in the washing machine with your laundry. For a scented wash, sprinkle a few drops of your favourite essential oil directly on the cotton pouch before tossing it in the washing machine. For heavily soiled or stained laundry, use the soapnuts in combination with non-toxic, bleach-free stain-removing salt (sodium percarbonate).
All Purpose Cleaner: Himalayan Soapnuts™ are excellent for washing dishes and cleaning. The soapnut suds are extremely gentle and softening on the skin, so there is no irritation or dryness experienced when washing dishes. Here’s how to make a Soapnut Solution: In a small/medium cooking pot with a lid, add some water, and cook a small handful of soapnuts for about five minutes. Cover the pot with a lid while cooking. After five minutes, remove the pot from heat and let cool. Remove the soapnut shells, and place in the compost. Experiment with the amount of soapnuts you cook each time to determine the strength of solution that bests suits your needs.
Hair Shampoo: By making a soapnut solution and placing it in a squeeze bottle, or a reusable shampoo bottle, you can use it as an everyday shampoo. It is wonderful for helping to get rid of dandruff or psoriasis. Try it for a body wash too!
Taking Care of Your Plants: A mild soapnut solution is wonderful for getting rid of common houseplant pests, and protecting the plants from possible ones. The mild suds deter any prospective pests due to the saponin content, which is repulsive to insects and pests. Simply make a mild solution and put into a spray bottle. Spray generously onto the foliage of your plants and the top of the soil.
Reusing Your Soapnuts: Once you have used the soapnuts in the laundry, remove them and let them dry completely. When they have dried, they are ready to be used again. After their second use, set them aside to dry. Try making a soapnut solution with them for all-purpose cleaning. When the soapnuts have been used to their full potential, throw them into the composter.

Very pleased.
I soak the soapnuts in hot water first and pour the soapy water into the washer. I put the nuts themselves into a larger mesh bag than the one provided and add that to the washer as well. So far I am very pleased with the results and also with the fact that both the used nuts and packaging aren’t going to landfill.

Excelent alternative to chemical laundry detergents
Really satisfied with these soap nuts, only flaw would be that they advertise the package suppose to include cotton bag(s) to put nuts to in washing machine and there were none in the box of soap nuts... I had make my own bag.

Best soapnuts I've found.
I've been using soap nuts for laundry since before Covid. They work well and have so many uses. Aside from containing saponin (soap), they also soften fabric. No need for fabric softener. I use 2 bags, each containing 4 nuts, in my front load washer. These 8 nuts last for 7 to 10 loads with my soft water. Very economical. The Ecoideas brand is much better than the ones I was getting at Bulk Barn. The BB ones were mostly broken. The Eco ones are mostly whole. Much better quality.

Great product, great price
Great product, great price. More shell than nut, which is great because the shell has the saponin (soap) in it.
Got it to start making may own shampoo rinse that is gentler on my hair and scalp, have used them before to hand wash and renew mixed(cotton and wool, etc) yarn sweater and it was fantastic. Got out a light and fresh stain from it.
I have not had occasion to use on bad stains

Works okay.
I used this product for several weeks before I noticed a bit of brown colouration on light garments. I would now only use the soapnuts on dark colours as I think the colour may be transferring onto clothing that the soapnuts bag is resting on. Perhaps that is why the bag they go in is not a mesh bag which I used instead of the little bag provided. Otherwise they seem to clean fine.
