Bought it pre-eclipse
With the Eclipse coming we invested in the Lego Technic "Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit" so we could get a little hands on in trying to understand what's going on in the sky.
It's a great build (lots of gears and moving parts).
The engineering behind the set is very impressive. I moved the earth half way around the sun and counted 180ish earth rotations (aka 365 days in a year)
You will also have a visual to help explain seasons and the phases of the moon (and probably more).
NOTE: lots of reviewers were upset that the description says printed graphics, but the months and moon cycles were on stickers . . . The globe is the printed graphic.

Outstanding Teaching Tool
I’d been on the lookout for a set like this for a while (space, mechanical, Technic) and was so happy when this was announced - even happier putting it together!
I put it together once myself and then had my students assemble it shortly after to coincide with a total solar eclipse that occurred in our area. I’ve put together many sets with my classes over the years (Haunted House, Crane Truck, ISS to name a few), but this was the first that really captured the engineering spirit I try to reinforce in many of my lessons. It was straight up too hard for quite a few students who couldn’t follow directions or recognize one gear instead of another. In my opinion though, that was perfect as it afforded those who did understand the opportunity to tear it down and problem solve with their classmates. I’ll never forget the look of accomplishment on the student who finished it when they turned the crank and it worked - truly magical.
Anyways, thank you for making this set - would love to see something mechanical for other branches of science!

Awesome product, but...
Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome product. Building technics, the design and educationnal purpose is realy good. However, the labels for the moon phase are designed for southern hemisphere only. No mention about it in the instruction nor other labels for northern hemisphere customer. Not possible to invert them somehow. Moreover, the model lack of stability. But overall, I recommend it, but be aware of these 2 major points. Thanks

Amazing set!
I've had this set on my wishlist for a while now. Every time I see it in stores I just WANT it so badly!!! Finally made the purchase, and I'm so happy! Watching it come together was such a joy...sure, it was a bit tricky (a few times I had to triple check a step) but it looks so cool! Definitely in my top 10 favorite sets!

Great build!
This was a fun build with lots of complexities due to the movements. We build this using "Build together" instructions and everything came together really well. Once complete, the movement is smooth and seems pretty accurate, and this was a great way to learn about how our earth moves around the sun and what that means.

Impressive functions
Although not a long build, it was a lot of fun to put together. This is a great display piece if you are a fan of anything space, and the mechanism will amaze you! Once completed it runs extremely smoothly. I would definitely recommend this set!

After buying many age-appropriate sets for my daughters, I enjoyed the modest challenge this build offered. And they loved turning the gears and watching the rotation of earth and moon.
