  • Description & Features

The Mineral UV Filter formulas avoid the use of any nanoparticles. Instead, a refined dispersion of micronized ZnO and TiO2 in flexible, high-volatility, non-comedogenic silicones allows the formulations to remain extremely lightweight by optimizing the amount of the blocking agents. This formulation uses mainly ZnO for its protective effects (because in addition to reflecting/refracting light, ZnO is actually also able to absorb UV rays without creating oxygen radicals) and the supporting TiO2 that it contains is only in rutile form (no anatase form of TiO2 is used at all since it's an aggressive producer of free radicals).

Directions: Shake well before use. Apply to face liberally and evenly 15 to 20 minutes before UV exposure. To maintain protection during continued UV exposure, reapply every 2 hours or after material water exposure, towel-drying, swimming, or extensive perspiration. Use a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating. Suitable for all skin tones.
For use on children less than 6 months of age, consult a physician prior to use. Keep out of eyes. Rinse with water to remove.
If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Smells like paint and makes even white people look like a ghost I'm honestly baffled by the good reviews. This is the worst sunscreen I've ever tried. It smells like paint, and leaves the worst white cast I've ever experienced -- and I'm white with pretty pale skin. I'm shocked The Ordinary hasn't discontinued it. I can only imagine that the people who like this product aren't actually applying the amount that you're supposed to for proper protection (about 2 finger lengths). If you watch Dr. Dray's review of it on YouTube (she's a dermatologist) you'll see how bad the white cast is. Terrible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a repurchase unfortunately I was so looking forward to this product as I can’t wear chemical sunscreens. It was disappointing in the grey film that is left on your skin and does not rub in. I looked like a very strange greyish beige colour and has to put a lot of makeup over it to bring my skin back to life. I have very fair skin so I thought the white film would blend into my skin over time but it didn’t. Won’t be purchasing again, at least it was inexpensive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works. At first I didn't like this because it seemed thick and very white. I have light skin with a warm tone so it looked very strange on me. However, after learning to apply it little by little and wearing a powder over it, I have changed my mind. I'm using this from now on. Great product and price. A good sunscreen is very important to me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good base under makeup Overall I am happy with this sunscreen. I did find that as pointed out in some of the other reviews that this leaves a bit of white cast on your skin. This sunscreen is good for the price point, my skin didn't react to it and it was also a good base before putting on makeup.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed Bought this because of it being a mineral SPF, but unfortunately it did not work. As much as I rubbed it in, my skin looked grey. It left my skin feeling very dry and after a 1/2 hour I had to wash it off and moisturize my face. It DID block UV, but did not work for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaves awful layer on skin This product leaves a terrible and frankly embarrassing white cast on my skin. It makes me look gray. Leaves my skin super sticky and chalky feeling. It also smells weird to me. It's a great price but not worth it in my opinion.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Horrible white-blue toned disaster DO NOT USE IF YOU ARE DARK COMPLECTED!!! I really wanted to like this, it isn't greasy which is great but it leaves a ugly whitish-blue film on dark skin which does not go away and doesn't spread easily.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sunscreen for a reasonable price. I like this company a lot and their products. This sunscreen does put a white cast over your face for a few minutes before it soaks into your skin. The smell is minimal and makes my skin feel good.
