Penny Lane Organics Emulsifying Wax

Penny Lane Organics Emulsifying Wax is one of the best and most popular emulsifiers in preparation of cosmetic products where oil and water are used. It works as thickener and stabilizer in an emulsion, such as creams, lotions, body butters, conditioners, face cleansers and baby products.

This wax is what makes oils and water mix into a stable lotion or cream.

Directions: Recommended usage level is 2% (lotions) to maximum 10% (creams).

Here's a simple recipe for hand & body lotion:     

PHASE 1 Ingredients:

• 50 g Fractionated Coconut oil
• 40 g Jojoba Oil
• 30 g Avocado Oil
• 10 g Cocoa Butter
• 10 g Mango Butter
• 70 g Emulsifying wax

PHASE 2 Ingredients:

• 760 g Distilled water
• 80 g Vegetable glycerin

PHASE 3 Ingredients:

• 5 g Preservative (for example Germall)
• 10 g Vitamin E
• 10 g essential oil if you’d like to have a scented lotion

Steps:

1. Heat phase 1 ingredients on a gentle heat until butters and wax are completely melted. Do NOT overheat!
2. Heat in a separate pot phase 2 ingredients and bring them to a boil.
3. Pour phase 2 ingredients into oil based phase 1 mixture and mix with an immersion blender on high speed for 2-3 minutes.
4. Let the mixture cool and mix few more times 2-3 minutes each time.
5. Once the temperature drops to 45 C (113 F) add Phase 3 ingredients and blend thoroughly one more time.
6. Pour into lotion bottles, close the bottles, label them and enjoy!
